The Merger of Monsanto & Bayer AG

In April of this year, the U.S. Department of Justice approved a merger of Monsanto and Bayer AG—the 10th largest German-based chemical producer in the world. This makes this merger the world’s largest seed and pesticide company. With this merger, we will be potentially exposed to more GMOs and chemicals than ever before.

I cannot say exactly what will happen. I only know that I am very concerned because I believe that anything this big has as its goal to make money more than to make quality produce. And no one is asking us what kind of food we want in our bodies; their goal is to feed masses of people. They will produce what they want to produce and I don’t believe we will have much of a choice in the matter.

I don’t want the choice to buy my food from local small farmers or to grow my own food taken away from me. I also wonder what this means for “organic” farming.

What bothers me is that our bodies are already overloaded with chemicals, drugs, and processed food and because of that our livers are unable to detoxify our bodies efficiently.

It also distresses me that most of the world’s seed will be owned by one or two large conglomerates. Farmers are right to be worried.

This also does not bode well for the future of our health and the health of our children.

Is anyone else concerned about this? Or am I overreacting?
